What Are The Best Denture Options Available?

03 / 12 / 2020

Dentures:

Dentures are still very popular all over the UK but let me give you some information about why the traditional dentures may not be the best solution for you.
The Denture completely blocks the inside of the roof of the mouth, the biggest issue with that is that you’re not going to be able to taste the foods that you want, literally, it will block the majority of the tastebuds reducing the enjoyment of tasting the food.
The second thing is the denture is really bulky and it has to go into all the corners of your mouth, so it can be very uncomfortable, for some patients the bulky denture can change the face profile too. The other negative point of the traditional denture, to keep the denture well fitted you have to realign them quite often, meaning that you have to add material into it to continue being tight and comfortable in your mouth. This can be very frustrating because you will have such a beautiful denture but you have to keep coming back to realign the denture to stop keeping them moving around.
When you take your teeth out, you start to lose bone, you never stop losing bone unless you have a healthy tooth or a healthy implant. That is why the base where the denture sits will be always moving with time, and you need to make the right adjustments to keep the denture on a nice comfortable position.
When you go to a denture, you will lose two-thirds of the menu that you can eat, meaning that you are only able to generate 30% of the bite that you could generate when you had natural teeth.
The one time that the denture would be appropriate would be, if you do not have any teeth and you do not have the finances to be able to afford implants at that time, then a Denture would be the right solution for you.
Do not go to a denture just because you want to look better, because the rest of your life you’re gonna struggle with your face falling in when you remove the dentures, we all have seen people taking their dentures and literally their face caves in and they do not look the same person. So do not let the doctor convince you that a denture is the best option unless you truly exhausted every source possible.

Overdenture

The Overdenture Basically has at least two but oftentimes four implants that are connecting the overdenture with the implants in your jaw, so when you put the denture in it kind of snaps in and will be fixed and stable because of the implants in your mouth.
If you start to chew and eat though it may move because the reality is that underneath the denture it has some rings that when the denture goes in and out, in and out, in and out so many times, what will happen is that it is going to move and wear.

One of the points that people complain about the overdenture is that they have to make maintenance of the overdenture when the rings are worn out. This will add some additional cost to replace the rings and the inserts, plus the relying and cleaning.
This option is still a better option than dentures, it will look good and you could enjoy the taste of the food.

All-On-Four Bridges

All-On-Four concept is basically putting four implants in the right position and supporting one continuous bridge. This will be a more permanent solution, the dentures will be fixed and provide you with a more comfortable feeling as having normal teeth.

There are two different options:

Option 1: You can get a titanium bridge that has acrylic around the titanium bar and then you have denture teeth that go on top of it. The Titanium bar is super strong but when you combine the titanium bar, the acrylic around and the denture tooth on the top, the teeth structure will not be as strong as the zirconia one.

Option 2: Zirconia device, unlike the Titanium bridge, is built completely all on one piece, so you will not have three-piece like the titanium, acrylic and then denture teeth, you will have one continuous piece, and that piece is super strong, so strength wise that is the biggest difference between the Titanium and Zirconia. We are able to customize the zirconia into really different colours, to give the realistic look of gums and teeth to the colours you would be happy to have. The zirconia is built with the strongest material known in dentistry, it is called monolithic, it can take so much pressure and strength and so you do not need to worried that teeth will break off or a tooth wearing down, this is a device that can handle a lot of pressure as natural teeth
